How to Measure Your Ring Size on Your Own
By Namrata Ghosh
The first thing to know before buying a ring for a woman or for someone else is the ring size. The size refers to the inner circumference of the ring. Your ring should not be too tight or too loose, and should fit just right. While shops have tools and sample rings to help you find the correct size, there are also easy ways to measure it at home.
How to measure your ring size at home?
1. Using a string or a strip of paper
Take a piece of string or a strip of paper and wrap it around the base of the finger you want to measure. Make sure it is a snug fit. Cut it off at the point it overlaps. Lay it flat and measure the length with a ruler or a measuring tape. Now using a readily available ring size chart online, convert the diameter measurement into a ring size. Make sure the units of measurement are the same.
2. Using a ring that you have
Find a ring that fits you perfectly on the finger you want to measure. Lay the ring down on a flat surface, and using a ruler or a measuring tape, measure the diameter of the ring. Make sure you are measuring the widest parts. Use a ring size chart to determine the size of your ring.
3. Using a ring sizer tool
These budget-friendly tools are easily available online and are useful if you frequently purchase rings for yourself or your loved ones. Just slide the tool over your finger and keep a note of the size it indicates.
These methods work for both men and women. Just remember to measure the correct finger. Also keep note of the dominant and non-dominant hand.
However, there are certain things one has to keep in mind while measuring the ring size.
1. At times our fingers swell up and shrink depending on the temperature or the time of day. It is always best to measure your finger in the evening and when your hands are not cold.
2. The width of the ring of the ring is important. Consider buying half a size bigger for a ring with a wide band, as it might have a tighter fit than one with a narrow band.
3. Even if you know your size from before, always measure your size again whenever you purchase a new ring. With time, our bodies change, and so do our ring sizes.
4. Avoid measuring yourself right after exercising. As our bodies heat up from the exercise, it causes our fingers to swell up in size.
Ring sizes can be adjusted if needed by 1 to 2 sizes up or down. However, this might be difficult for rings that have designs on their band. There are also plenty of rings with adjustable bands that you can purchase for yourself or your loved ones. AZGA (link to rings page) has several options of stunning rings.
